Nomination Clarification #2

Almost done! Sign ups will open once these last two fandoms have been decided on.

Lord Peter Wimsey - Dorothy Sayers

This series was continued by another author, the last novel being published in 2012. Are the new novels distinct enough to be counted as a separate canon?

天地無用! | Tenchi Muyo!

There are OVA series that have been released past 2010, but I can't tell if they're adaptations of the original manga, or sequels? Can someone please clarify?

Thank you!

As the person who nominated Lord Peter Wimsey, all I can say is that this is the first I'd heard of there being sequels written 60-70 years later by an unrelated author. I haven't read them and don't know what anyone else thinks. For what my 2 cents are worth, I would think they wouldn't count in the same way that modernly-written novels about Sherlock Holmes or the gang from Pride & Prejudice don't count as being part of the same series as the Conan Doyle or Austen originals. (But maybe that's not the general logic used for this sort of judgment call? IDK. :) )

After a bit of wikipedia crawling, it looks like the first of the sequels was based on an unfinished Sayers novel, the second loosely based on some of Sayers' stories, but the others are basically fanfic?

Much obliged! :)

As someone on the edges of the fandom: nobody, even the people who like the Walsh books, considers them canonical.

Tenchi nominator. Tenchi canon is complicated I suppose. The OVA is still ongoing, not an adaptation of previous material. I'd prefer to have the nomination be Tenchi Muyo! (TV 1995)/Tenchi Universe, which is a distinct continuity from the OVAverse and has been over for a while, but I've heard the new(er) Ai Tenchi Muyo! (2014) may be related. I'd say even if it is supposed to be it focuses on new characters much more than the established ones. Feel free to use the 1995 continuity or reject nomination.
